Where to start? haha Well, I went and saw Zombieland on Saturday night. I went into it with pretty high expectations after hearing all the positive buzz floating around the net. I was not let down in anyway. Zombieland is a laugh-out-loud comedy that delivers romance and gore side by side in a very satisfying way. Zombieland is a story about 4 survivors (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin) of a plague that turned mad cow disease into mad human disease, or so they describe it. The film takes place in a post plague world with flash backs showing the spread of the disease and to help with character development. The 4 main characters meet at random moments early on in the film, and spend the remainder of the film joining forces to get to a California amusement park, which is supposedly a safe haven from the zombies.

Zombieland prides itself on showing the most graphic and creative ways to kill Zombies, and man does it succeed. The opening credits are a collection of super slow motion Zombie chase scenes that will have you grossed out and laughing at the same time. The film itself contains very extreme amounts of gore, but it is 100% a comedy, not a horror film.

Zombieland is so much fun to watch, the mix of Zombies and comedy really make it a laugh-out-loud experience. Character development in this film is very quick but is super effective. They introduce each of the main for characters with a series of flash backs that allow you understand who these 4 random survivors are. Columbus, Jesse Eisenburg’s character, is the quiet video gamer type. He follows a strict list of rules he creates to help him survive Zombie. Tallahassee, Woody Harrelson’s character, comes into the move early on and teaches Columbus to become a bad ass and “grow a pair” as some might say. Woody Harrelson, is amazing in his role as Tallahassee, the outspoken wild/crazy man that takes Zombie killing to a whole new level. There is also a surprise celebrity cameo that is hilarious, but I don’t want to go in to details, that would defiantly be a spoiler.

Another thing that made this movie fun, is just specific to me, well anyone who lives in Atlanta I guess. 90% of this movie was filmed here in Atlanta. The small town scene where they discover the hummer is right down the street from where I live, in downtown Marietta, GA. The location of the surprise celebrity cameo takes place in a house I pass everyday on my way to work. It is defiantly fun to see my surroundings on the big screen.

Overall, the film is defiantly worth seeing. There is a decent bit of gore, but I would guess it is tolerable to most. I seriously think Zombieland might be the funniest movies I have seen this year.

Rotten Tomato (89% & Certified Fresh!): Zombieland

Well, I have covered plenty of the technology stuff on the blog, so I thought I would start to get more involved with film news and reviews on top of the technology stuff that I will continue to do also.

The Synopsis & Cast

With that being said, I recently went to see Kevin Smith’s new film, Zack and Miri Make a Porno. This movie stars Seth Rogen (Knocked Up and Superbad) as Zack, and Elizabeth Banks (40 Year Old Virgin and Defiantly, Maybe) as Miri. Zack and Miri are two longtime friends that are struggling to make ends meet and pay the bills at the apartment they share. In dire need of money, they decided to make a porno. They take off to local strip clubs and sex shops in search of actors and crew. The main story line of the film is about the sex scene that Zack and Miri have for the porno, and the feelings it brings out.

The Review

Zack and Miri is a good film, I will just come out and say it. It offers up a large number of gut busting laughs while holding a pretty good plot line. I am a big fan of Kevin Smith and his past films, so I had high expectations going into this film. Even with the high exceptions, I enjoyed this film. It is not as great as some of his other films, but it is in no way bad.

It does what you would expect, by delivering great one liners, gross out comedy scenes, and very very awkward sex moments. I would go into depth on some of my favorite scenes, but I don’t want to give away to much. There is one scene that is so over the top gross out funny, if you have seen it, you know what I am talking about. It works like Judd Apatows baby being born scene from Knocked up and the re occurrence of male nudity in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, where you can’t look away but it is horrible to watch and funny at the same time. The film also features Craig Robinson who most know as Daryl the warehouse guy from NBC’s The Office. His scene with his stereo type wife towards the end of the movie is one of the classic moments I will remember from this film.

Justin Long (The Apple Guy) and Brandon Roth (Superman Returns) defiantly steal the show during their very short onscreen time. Justin Longs character in general would have added to the film if he stuck around a bit longer.

I took a date to see this movie, but she was prepared for it. I would defiantly say make sure you know what you are getting into before you walk into this movie with your little brother or a uptight girl friend. It is very raunchy, and IS A VERY VERY STRONG R MOVIE.

Overall: B+

I had heard rumors that this might occur, but it as been a while since I hard heard anything so I thought they decided to scrap that idea. Well, to my surprise, this morning I had an email waiting from Netflix saying:

Dear Chris,

As you may know, Blu-ray movies are more expensive than standard definition movies. As a result, we’re going to start charging $1 a month (plus applicable taxes), in addition to your monthly membership charge, for unlimited access to Blu-ray movies.

The additional charge for unlimited Blu-ray access will be automatically added to your next billing statement on or after November 5th, 2008 and will be referenced in your Membership Terms and Details. If you wish to continue getting Blu-ray movies for $1 a month more, you don’t need to do anything. If not, you can remove Blu-ray access anytime by visiting Your Account at the Netflix website.

If you have questions about this change or need any assistance, please call us anytime at 1-888-638-3549.

-The Netflix Team

As far as I am concerned, $1.00 is nothing, and I am going to pay it monthly so I can still get my beautiful Blu Ray films on a monthly basis. HD quality movies are just to good, so $1.00 is nothing!

What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts on the list?
